Imagine being in the hotel wen a thousand pound piece of cast iron came through the roof. - Or on the trolley when the engine started racing. :-(

That's a heck of a sales pitch for flywheel insurance!
Now I know why a fellow at the Rhode Island Museum of Wireless and Steam was so adamant about not running a newly acquired engine until it had the proper shrink-links installed across the flywheel joints.

You can never be too safe, I have seen this happen along with boiler and diesel engine explosions.
