Is anyone on this Board knowledgable on Drillings (3 barrel guns), I need to ask some questions about a 16 X 16 X 9.73X72R German drilling that is on an estate auction this weekend. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If it is in good order it could be worth alot, like several thousand $.
Though the caliber and gauge on this one is not highly sought after.

What exactly do you need to know?

The rifle calibers of German drillings are just about always weird. I've heard various theories as to why, but none convincing.

I have several drillings. One in the same caliber 9.3x72. A good cartridge about like a 35 Remington. Most of the older 16 ga. were 2 1/2 inch chambers. No problem, as loaded shotshells are available and not too expensive. Drillings varied in quality from very cheap to equal to a British "Best Quality" gun. Good luck, Tom

I was in a hurry yesterday and did not provide quite enough info to start with. The mfg is Heinrich Raetz, Luneburg, Germany. Is this a Guild gun since it is not a mfg that i am familiar with? I am looking for a value range since i will not be able to view the gun until Fri. PM and the sale is Sat AM.

AS I recall guild guns were apprentece works Guilds were like unions here, sort of, so I'm guessing it was a test piece as at the end of the apprenticeship the student had to build a rifle and was graded on it.
