Put an accurately straight bar in your chuck, set up a sine bar against it that is set to the angle you want. Indicate the sine bar with the compound and when you get a zero reading while traversing the sine bar with the compound then your compound travel is parallel to the sine bar and is set at the angle of the sine bar.
no neat sig line

Had to do this recently for setting a 10 deg angle accurately. Solved for Sin 10 deg X hypotneuse = A(opp side). Let the hyp equal an even number, such as 1", 2" etc. This will also be the movement on your compound. Set an indicator on your compound and indicate the compound parallel to the spindle center line using a test bar, moving only the compound. Once you have parallelism, then you can make the adjustments for setting your angle. Move your compound past the starting point and take out the backlash. This is your zero point. Now reset the compound by the amount of the opp. side and then advance the compound the amount of the hyp. This may have to be tried several times, until the hyp and the opp side agree.
It takes longer to explain this than to do it, but it does work.
