View Full Version : To bore or not to bore that is the question

After having my Clark Brand metal bandsaw for the last five years I just noticed that the drive wheel runs with a wobble and about 15 thousands out of round. Funny I've never noticed this before and I can't imagine that the wheel got bend in use somehow. The only thing that's ever happened is a blade with a bad tooth caught and popped the blade off the wheel. Anyway should I mount the wheel on a shaft (quickest and easist?) in my lathe and turn the rim true or should I mount the rim in the lathe, bore out the center, press in a plug and bore back out to size? The shaft on the saw runs perfectly true. Or in this application does it make any difference. I suspect it's been this way since I bought it. I guess I just put the blade on, close the door, and went back to using it.

If you suspect problems you can attribute to the runout then you can make a case for fixing it, otherwise... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
