Vintage rifle: I am not a machinist and I am looking for someone who would have an interest in giving me feed back or working on recreating the action of an 1840's percussion rifle. I have a small rifle that has a solid iron wrist with a removable plate on one side that contains the lock and springs etc...There is nothing to my knowledge available on the market like this and I would like to recreate it only slightly larger to build new rifles on. Any one interested please contact me and I can send photo's and information via E-mail.Thank you! Stevensm@WCTAtel.net

i am interested in your rifle. while i do build some muzzle loaders, i am pretty well buried in projects at the present. that is not to say that something sufficiently interesting might make me want to take the time to look into it.
i know that is an 'iffy' answer, but it is also the way it is.
email to: email@example.com
edited to add: please put the word 'rifle' in the subject line so i don't can your reply.

Are you thinking about a Wesson rifle?
Here is a book on the Allen & Wheelock guns $12.
Post some pictures for us.
I would like to see more of what you want.

The name "Allyn & Wheelock" pops up into my mind. Last time I saw one of these actions was close to 40 years ago and the memory has faded a wee bit. It could be the Wesson, though, but I seem to remember the the rear of the "receiver" sloped off instead of being "Square". I would be very interested in seeing some photos, though, if you don't mind.

Hey, couldn't he post the pictures on here? Be a lot less trouble than sending them to us as individuals.

I'd like to post a photo here but can't seem to figure out the proceedure. If any one would like to see photos I'd be happy to e-mail them. I believe there may be some similar reproductions from Italy but I am not familiar with anyone offering just an action to build on. This rifle has a hooked breech plug that also is locked in from underneath like the old wesson style rifles with a screw. The barrel and plug aren't available for photo right now as I am having the barrel re-bored. Thanks for the interest!
