Ok this drove my wife nutz for a day. She showed it to me and I figured it out in short order ( about 30-45 sec )... that mad her mad coz I laugh and would not tell her how it worked. Well not right away any ways.

Thought I'd share this with you all here.

Tim,

Okay...level with us. Your day job is soooo boring that you have time to search the web for puzzles. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//wink.gif

Good puzzle, thanks for posting it!

Well, I would've got it on the first try, but I made a stupid arithmatic error. So it took me a few more rolls to nail it down. I know, how hard can it be to count to 8 -sheesh. I read the title of the puzzle and just looked for the representation.

The smarter you are the longer to figure it out. Ok I got it the second throw of the dice. 'Bout six seconds. Guess I am not nearly so smart as my momma told me.

There you go Evan, see you're so @#$% smart you make the rest of us look bad. Remember, how long it takes you to figure it out is supposed to be inversely proportional to your intelligence. Shucks, it might take you days to figure it out.

Evan, I sent you an email. If you don't want to know - don't open the email, just delete it.

Evan...Your stuck in the same logic loop that the wife was.

As far as the smarter the longer... well I thnk that's just a way the justify all the time runing numbers to no end.

No Mike... Not me... I'm not ZZZZzzzZZZzz. No really I like my job. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

Great puzzle! But don't suggest anymore http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

Down side: It took me quite awhile to figure it out!

Upside: I know every possible combination that can be thrown with 5 dice http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

Ummm, often I don't "get"things like this but it was so simple that I don't even see how this can be called a puzzle. What am I missing?

Yeah, I agree with you Paul. I guess this is one of those that either hits you or it doesn't.

Well, I got it this AM in less than a minute. I was hoping that I would prove smarter than Dr. Duke but...

OK, I think everyone would have gotten the pedals/rose puzzle immediatly back in the days of PONG and the Atari 2600...

Ask someone in 100 years to solve that puzzle, and I bet nobody will be able to! http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//smile.gif

This is the coolest illusion:

http://www.ebaumsworld.com/images/checkershadow.jpg

Square 'A' is exactly the same color and shade as Square 'B', but your brain processes the image and gives square 'A' a shadow even though there isn't one..

You will have to load the image into a paint program and physically copy/paste the squares together in order to actually see they are the same because our brains are making them look different even though they are relaly the same RGB values...

Don't take my word for it, load the image into your paint program and compare the color of Square 'A' and Square 'B' but cutting/pasting them out of the image and put them close to eachother and you'll be amaized http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//wink.gif

I used copy and paste to duplicate the grey grid image in MS Paint. I then zoomed in using the magnifier and started to erase the blocks that surround "A" & "B". It was really intersting to watch the lighter block (B) get darker and darker as I erased the surounding blocks. If I wsn't doing it myself, I wouldn't believe it.
