View Full Version : OT- Racing riding lawnmowers?

Just had to post this. On ESPN right now, they are racing riding lawnmowers. AND I understand there is a national sanctioning body for this, and state sanctioning bodies for this?

I will never look at my "Toro" the same again, and forever will now be thinking about how to soup up the old Tecumsah.

Yeh, they do wreck, and no, they do not have blades.

And i thought this was only a joke on "Tool Time".....

I had a V-65 Honda Magna that is the power for a racing lawn mower. The blades have to turn in the class that they race in. It is a John Deere rider that has been extended. It looks like a pulling tractor.

If I built a riding lawnmower, I wouldn't waste my time building anything less than small block v-8 powered mower... Actually, I think my PsychoKart Version2 might be V8 Powered.. I was thinking of building a go-kart powered with (2) 4-cyl 1100cc engines side by side with a split axle (One 4-cyl 1100cc engine powers one rear wheel, and the other 4-cyl 1100cc engine powers the other wheel)... No need for a diff either.

Seriously though, If you're going to build something crazy, go ALL OUT CRAZY and don't hold back -- it's much more fun that way.

Yup, and they have a big race just north of us here in Mansfield, Ohio. That might be the one that you watched on tv. Just goes to show, if it moves, someone will want to race it against someone else.
The official rules are here.

If you think that is something you ought to look at racing bar stools.

Here is a link to the lawnmower racing, Sta-bil has been sponsoring this for years, most of the racing is done with modified lawn mower engines that will still run 45-55 mph plenty fast enough to kill you on a lawnmower, let alone something as overpowered as a v8.
Really kinda cheap for racing.

Bar stool racing has been around way more than 20 years, they used to do it on the Wide World of Sports. They used to use starter motors and batteries and now they use engines.

We all make our money in different ways, those racing lawn mowers and pullers cost money and someone has to build the engines and make the parts, I gladly take their money in my shop http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//smile.gif

I think we have the Brits to thank for starting the lawnmower racing deal....heard about it as a "sport" over there about 8 years ago.

Sta-bil has been sponsoring this in the US for about 12 years, its been around in one form or another alot longer than that, had a friend of mine from iowa, that raced in the early 1980's.
