I use thunderbird for Mac, and when I open the application, the window is blank. I then have to click the 'in box' icon on the right to get the inbox to display the contents.

There must be a setting somewhere to default the in box to be open on stertup, but I havn't found it.

Sounds like you have the option to "download headers only" set on. Check to see if there's something like that in the options. There may be a "preview pane" option too.

I don't do TB, but these are in OE.

This is somehting new for me. Could some one please enlighten me as the only Thunderbird that I ever saw downloaded was a form of shareware that came wrapped in brown paper and was packaged in glass. When you were done you were both down and loaded about $2.50 a gallon in 1975 I beleive. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

Jim,

i use Thunderbird at home on a WinXP machine. i'll check tonight what setting you're missing and post back.

ARFF,

Thunderbird is a free email program from the Mozilla group. they also have the Firefox web browser. both worthwhile downloads for any Windows machine. i've been using them since the beta versions came out last year and i have had zero problems.

when the beta version of Firefox first came out there were some websites that didn't recognize it and certain features of the website didn't work correctly. i didn't mind, as these were usually features i didn't use. at present it looks like almost every web designer knows it's out there so they added recognition for it into their website software.

When I last checked on FF about a month ago, it was still in beta. It also says you need to check for updates DAILY. No thanks, for now. I like my IE.

i looked in options, and there is a Thunderbird Start Page Option. maybe you have some crazy info in there. i'd click "Restore Default" and see what happens. i never changed mine, so i would assume it is still the defailt, and i have no problems.

also, there is a Window Configuration option. i have mine set for the standard triple-pane view (the option on the left).

as for the concerns that some of this software is still in the beta stage, i must confess i am still using the original beta download. i have NEVER had a crash or lock-up. i doubt any microsoft product can claim such stability. just the fact that Firefox has multiple browser tabs available puts it lightyears ahead of IE for user friendliness.
