Find one that is around about the same size as it and make a cradle for it to get it to the right height.

I'm building a variation of your idea, adapting a follower rest to my SB10. Every SB follower sells for $200+, looks like a "no name" item will cost $50. I'll post pics when done.

With the extra base width, your adapted-rest is more rigid than the factory version.
