I ran across this while looking into a so called dust explosion in the PM board. Thought it was worth passing along. Be sure to watch the video.

I notice that it was filmed by Doug Brazil, any relation to Ron Mexico?

I saw this on TV awhile ago too. I would have tried to pull it back to sea with several tugs, and if that didn't work, I would have it incinerated on the beach with accelerant.. Blowing it up would have worked I think, if they used directional charges toward the sea.

That's one whale of an explosion...

Sorry, that's one explosion of a whale.

Anybody get the follow-up on that. Dead whale guts all over the place? Seems it would have made the odor problem a lot worse.

Was the EPA, OSHA, Coast Guard, SPCA, TVA, RCA, TNN, or Mrs. Paul's notified? I'm sure people can't just blow up whales without a ton of paperwork. And what would Spock think? After all, we are civilized.

I wonder if this is the same whale as mentioned in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy?

Dave,

Not the same whale. No potted petunias.

After the demolition Oregon DOT ended up scraping about 2 inches of sand off two miles of beach, hauled it away and buried it.

They had a chance to reinact it the year before last, but passed up on the opportunity.

Should have hauled it out to sea and ONLY THEN exploded it.
