It has turned out the way I imagined. It happens that we have four parties that all are in a minority position. The way it works is that the possible coalitons are one vote short of being able to pass legislation. A guy in the Vancouver area with hair halfway down his back and a right wing conservative to boot ran as an independent and won. He is obligated to no-one but his constituents (his choice, and he seems one of the few honest politicians), and will hold the swing vote in many cases. It may even be up to him to bring down the government and force another election. I don't claim prescience but I am suprised how it turned out. We really don't have a government.

What is needed in that situation is a four-way duel Give each guy a gun, step off ten paces and shoot, course the conservatives would win everytime
I still say we the people of the world need to reorder or governments so that once a month the politicians we elect should have to be strapped into an electric chair on a live voting type show,as the approval rating decreases the voltage increases But only do that with local and state politicians,by the time the survivors reach congress or the whitehouse they would never think of doing anything stupid, bezzzzzzzzzzzzI just need one more tool, just one!

Make it like jury duty. Anyone who really wants the office is unqualified just by that fact.
In reality, probably we should elect ambitious and dishonest stinkers. They will be far more in tune with the leaders of quite a few problem countries...might get some talking going....CNC machines only go through the motions.

"...probably we should elect ambitious and dishonest stinkers.."
J Tiers where have you been the last 40 or 50 years?
Frankly I kind of envy Canada's current situation. i.e. a government that can't pass any legislation. Wish we'd had that long ago.Lynn (Huntsville, AL)

Should have read:
"Probably we SHOULD elect......"
Meaning we can keep it up.
Carter may have been a decent human (opinions differ) but I regard him a failure as a president. And I voted for him, twice.

Wayne,
Chuck Cadman is a strong conservative. He ran as an independent because of disagreements over the nomination process. I don't know his exact stand on firearms ownership but since he was a member of the former Canadian Alliance party (very conservative) I have to assume he is against the gun registry and pro-ownership. He is definitely a "tough on crime" type and thinks that young offenders literally get away with murder. That may be because his 16 year old son was killed in a drive by shooting by a young offender some time ago.
It will be very interesting to see what happens because if any legislation is going to pass the Liberal/New Democrat coalition will need his vote. Ha! There is no way the Bloc Quebecois will side with the Liberals as they hate each others guts and the Bloc plus the NDP don't have enough votes to do anything. The Bloc plus Conservatives are one vote short of a tie with the Liberals plus NDP so Cadman has all the power.Free software for calculating bolt circles and similar: Click Here

Hope you're right,Evan but it's more complicated than that. The Bloc, besides being Quebec Successionists, are far left. As far left as the NDP, so they actually agree on most things, especially at the looney-tune end of the spectrum. The LIEberals are merely survivors, but whilst they will steal anyones values, they have been almost as left as the other two already mentioned. The LIEberals are similar to the Democrats in the US in amount of leftward tilt. All these Reds are anti-gun and if you know where Finestein or Boxer are on most things, you'll know where the LIEberals are at.
The Conservatives are similar to the Republicans and are against continuing the gun registry boondoggle and thus are hated by the left and their outriders such as radfems and the media.
Chuck Cadman, the lone independent and former Conservative who lost his renomination due to a swarming at the nomination meeting does hold a pivotal place, but the mix of Parliamentary votes for any given piece of legislation will vary by day and by political slant. Heck, these Klownz may even wind up doing nothing at all, which aside from the colossal cost, would be a net benefit.

You hit it right on the head with the minority government Evan. I thought the conservatives might have gotten in but I can't stand watching all that political crap in the media. Makes me want to puke. Once again the west is left out in the cold. Maybe we should start crying seperation like Quebec does and black mail the government into looking after some of our interests and problems in the west.

Interesting... I came across this article:
[Quote in part]
Indeed, international comparisons lend credence to the idea that Canada's existing gun controls aren't helping, and that more gun control will make things worse. Both the United Kingdom and Australia have seen crime soar after they imposed more severe versions of the gun-grabbing legislation the NDP faction in Canada's government will push. Both nations, much safer than the United States through the 1970s, are significantly more dangerous today.
Canadians, whose Charter of Rights and Freedoms contains no right to keep and bear arms and whose legal system offers little in the way of judicial review, will almost certainly have at least some of their guns taken away when their newly organized government gets down to business. So long as a Republican remains in the White House, Americans probably have little to fear from whatever lobbyists Ottawa might send to push for gun control in Washington. Even John Kerry — who may well run on the first Democratic platform in a generation that doesn't call for major new gun control laws — probably wouldn't be swayed. But, at the very least, those who support grabbing America's guns will have a powerful foreign champion in their corner.
Gun control has failed in Canada and everywhere else governments have tried to impose it. Canadians have reasonable concerns about crime, but their next government's likely gun-control plans won't help things.

Wayne,
That story badly misrepresents the statistics about crime rates. The rate of violent crime in areas outside of certain city districts is close to nil. Crimes like murder and rape are almost unheard of in places like Williams Lake where I live. What we have a problem with is petty property crime and car theft, not crimes directed against persons. The murder rate in Canada is still far lower than in the US per 100,000 population. Seattle has a murder rate about 3 times higher than Vancouver while Washington DC is about 45 times higher than Ottowa. Overall the US murder rate is about ten times higher per capita than Canada.
Gun control is not the answer, criminal control and more important, good education is the most effective in reducing crime of all types. Incarceration helps to some extent but not much if the inmates receive only free housing at state expense. The gun control policies of the NDP and Liberals especially are a cynical and transparent attempt to gain votes from bleeding heart city dwellers who think food comes from the grocery store.Free software for calculating bolt circles and similar: Click Here

Maybe thats whats needed,in Russia when the country folk who didn't give a damn about the cities politics needed some attention they went on strike and starved the cities until they got what they wanted.
Wayne02,don't let Kerry fool you,he is big time for gun control,at least for people who want the right to defend themselves,he claims to want to keep hunting rifles legal, but ban handguns and automatic rifles producing more unarmed peasants for Hillary C. to rule once she has him assasinated.
