View Full Version : OT: How fast do you type? Typing test...

I only got 4 words per minute, but in my defense I have a pretty bad hand injury from my teen years. I got in a fight with a skillsaw mag 77 and lost.

I got 44 wpm on the last typing test I took. That was in '69 and should still be valid!

I am constantly reminded of things I don't do well and don't feel the need to be humbled when avoidable.

It "really" doesn't work.

50wpm. They wouldn't let us transfer out of typing class when they had enough boys who wanted to be with the girls to have an all boy class of 100 !!

Yes, it works. It took me a few minutes to figure out what you are supposed to do. You type out what is displayed above the box. As you finish typing one phrase verbatim, the next phrase is automatically generated. What really threw me was when it said "Stop and press exit". I stopped and tried to find the exit key on my keyboard (there isn't any) and also looked for a "button" on the screen to click with the mouse. But NOOOOOO!, they wanted me to type "Stop and press exit". I got up to 11wpm. I'm the "hunt and peck" type also.

It took me several tries to get through. Not so good on intelligence. 12 WPM. So what? It is faster than I can print. And my script can not be read, not even by myself.

Whenever I typed anything it didn't show up.

08-13-2005, 03:49 AM
Same thing happened with me Evan, and it wasn`t consistant either.I was typing away like a man possessed, I glanced up...zilch!, start again, one or two letters only http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//frown.gif Still 4wpm was pretty damn good considering my handicap http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//smile.gif ha ha.
Paul, my script is also crap and getting worse as I get older; should I worry?? When I was younger my writting was very tidy, now I could write prescriptions for a living http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

I used to do about 60 wpm in high school, but that was a long time ago. I took typing for one reason, that was where all the girls were, not in the wood shop lol. I'm glad I did though. I'm always amazed at the number of supposedly computer literate people who type with two fingers. When I went to school, printing instead of writing legibly in cursive would get ya flunked.

does spelling count? if so i am slow.maybe 6or 7. then if one of the cats wants to help it goes down.

I don't get it.

If it took me only 1 minute and 25 seconds, then how could I only have 6 wpm?

08-13-2005, 09:10 AM
What I don't get is the fact that you don't/can't use the backspace key. Every time that I knew I hit a wrong key, I instinctively hit the backspace to correct my error. Doing that just made things worse. Not very realistic when you think about computers, maybe closer to the typewriter days.
Oh well, I hated 8th grade typing class too.

08-13-2005, 09:15 AM
I've done the test several times and the results are closer to the number of sentances that you did without errors, not words per minute.

08-13-2005, 09:54 AM
I'm not sure if errors really factor into it, my score was pretty high even with 2 or 3 errors. But the wpm calculations are definately funny, as I type about 80 wpm in reality and consistently score about 145-155 wpm on this test.

I type at a pretty good rate, but everytime I took the test, I came up with 4 wpm?

08-13-2005, 10:52 AM
First attempt 22 wpm.

Second, 153 wpm.

I type pretty fast, but I don't think it's really that fast.

Easier too, to type things you're thinking instead of what you're reading.

I took typing class in the ninth grade since it looked easy and fun.
(Just the thing for a solid "C" student.)

Was pleasantly surprised by all the girls in class.
About 20 of them and 6 guys.

Typing came in handy in every job save 2 that I worked at.

It was a lucky break for me that I did take typing.
Now and then....

08-13-2005, 08:40 PM
i know where to put my fingers.

08-14-2005, 03:53 AM
I type as fast as I can think. It gives a pain in the head otherwise. you only need two fingers for most thoughts, but if you get a sudden rush of blood to the head then you can employ two fingers on each hand. Going the full hog on the whole QUERTY keyboard is too much like hard work.

08-14-2005, 08:15 AM
It seems like some of you are getting a higher score than what is correct and some of us are getting far less than correct. Could this be related to the persons connection speed?

The whole test is useless. Since it does not read correct for most of us the accuracy is dubious.

08-14-2005, 08:19 AM
37 words per minute with one finger. Now with ten going with practice wouldnt I be the champ at 370 words per minute, Dave Letterman here i come.

Anyone know of an online morse test? http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

153 wpm second and third time

only 80 the first time, but its been about a week since i've typed much
