Will an older AR-5 Acu-Rite scale work with the current Acu-Rite 200 series displays? I see that they sell and adapter to go the other way, new scale with older displays.

Looking at the AR5 scale technical data, it shows that the scale has digital outputs, quadrature timing and even has a reference mark, just like the new ones.

Compare the spec sheet against one of the newer ones such as the ENC150's. It may be a simple matter of a new connector pinout or perhaps no change at all. Be sure to compare the supply voltages also.

I have a 200T turning DRO and am using Heidenhain scales on it with no problem. Had to re-terminate the ends in the proper connector and pinout.

The pinout is the same. They should plug in.

The only other possible issue is the interpolation applied to the quadrature signals (4x, 2x, maybe other). A quick call to Acu-rite tech support should get you an answer. They have always been competent and patient. Den
