When they advertise a chuck as being D1 camlock does it matter whether this is followed by four or six inch? In other words is a D1-4" the same fitting as a D1-6" only the chuck backplate is four inches as opposed to six or are they completely different sizes of fittings. I see some advertised as D1-4" and then the same thin advertised as a D1 fitting so I wondered if the following sizes were irrelevant or not??Alistair

Nope, they are different.

Here is a link that shows the specs.

No they are not the same.
People insist on listing the sizes as you have typed like D1-3" or D1-6" but the "" is irrelevant.
The specs are model sizes D1-3, D1-4 etc

A D1-6 is actually 7-1/4" on it's mounting flange which shows how silly it is to put the " there.

The problem is some web sites have copied off others and so compound the mistake.
Tony's site at http://www.lathes.co.uk does this as does the shopswarf link.

The Workholding site used to have a god table but I have lost the link, here's the current one I can find but this doesn't list the number of pins and sizes.

Unfortunatly all the good charts come under ISO Standards list and they want about £90 for a copy.
Just had a quick check as i though I had one but can't find it.

Good news for Evan though, found the Schlesinger stuff he was looking for.
