View Full Version : OT Suggestion.

Given all the OT posting lately it is obvious there are a lot of us (including me) who enjoy speaking off topic but it does clutter the board. I spend a lot of time at this board http://forums.pelicanparts.com/index.php?s= under the handle A Quiet Boom. As you'll notice they have about a million different forums, I frequent the 911 technical and most interestingly the OT forum. Why not add an OT forum here so that those of us who share and interest in machining yet sometimes what to discuss OT matters would have a place for these exchanges?

Who was it that wrote way back in the really dark ages

" And one man in his time plays many parts"?

I am so pleased that the attention of the World has focussed on problems somewhere just outside of engineering itself.

I am equally sure that other members will want to try to get on with their lives- and their own far from unique problems as well.
After all, success and continued interest in engineering topics is where we came in.

After all that- Yes, good friend, you are right.

I agree with Christian, we could call it "The Breakroom". Get rid of the other 2 forums here, they are hardly ever used and any questions posted there could be addressed in the "General" forum. I look at the OT stuff the same as if I was at work, BSing with my pals at break time. We all seem to be reasonably intelligent here and I enjoy discussing ideas with you folks. I don't agree with every opinion, but I like to hear them. Just keep it civil, shouting matches never solve anything. My 2 cents, Smitty

Tha old suggestion for an off topic forum, off topic thread. This one pops up every few months, just leave it as it is and dont read it if it doesnt interest you, there is nothing worse for a forum than having to many different areas to go to.

Hell, it pops up every week now.

I am with Mo on this one If you dont want to read an Off topic dont open it and for christ sake dont post to it, then you will be part of the problem, right?

That would be Shakespear. As You Like It. Duke Senior.

Don't ask.

ah yes, the bi weekly OT thread on OT threads. I'd like to complain about the number of OT threads about OT threads and think there should be forum for OT threads about OT threads http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//smile.gif

We just held a toolbox meeting. The brothers concur. For the occ health of all concerned, there should be a seperate OT area.

Who the hell is gonna decide what's OT tho?

Don't intend to be facetious, but I look to this forum for the lively discussion and the vast breadth and depth of engineering experience on this board.

My 2 bob worth, best to all

Well normally a mod would decide, but Neal doesn't appear to be to active here, so I really dont think it would work.

Well we're mostly all adults here. It appears that Neil does not put his foot down till it gets childish and nasty. I once thought we need a OT topic separate form the others... even suggested "The Chip Tray" as a name. But to tell the truth it's not needed I like the spice the OT's add to the metal mix. And if the topic is not to my taste I hit the back button. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//wink.gif
