The feature article in the new MW (a dovetail-less boring head) shows a "prentice drill". It looks kinda like a silver-deming drill. What is a prentice drill? The world wants to know. (Well, at least I do)

"Silver and deming drills are general purpose drills with a reduced shank to fit into a standard chuck, typically 1/2". Often used for portable drills with standard chuck capacities. All S&D drills are 6" long with a 3" flute length. Alternate terms are blacksmith drills or prentice drills."
