I was at an open house and discussing tools with the Mitutoyo rep. He mentioned that Starrett is under investigation for fraud against Uncle Sam. It seems they claimed certain accuracy limits on their CMM and lots were purchased based on the false claims. Turns out they were fibbing to sell them - or so the story goes.

Apparently this was in the New York Times a while back. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Is nothing sacred anymore??? http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//eek.gif

I saw an article about that a couple months ago, follow this link http://federmanlaw.com/article.asp?NewsID=9

If this is true, looks like they were more concerned about getting product out the door then if it actually worked.

Yeah, from what I was told, the US marshalls seized tonnes of records and suddenly they are replacing machines. Shades of WinBlows!

Shades of vapour ware!
