I have a webpage I like to visit on a regular basis that envolves reading text where the text is white and the background is black. It is annoying as hell and hard on the eyes.Is there anyway I can view the page with some other color background and text?

Could you maybe copy and paste the text into notepad or word?

I think if you start up near the top, click and drag your cursor downward while holding the button down it will change the contrast in a way that might be easier for you to read.

In some browsers it's easy.

In Firefox hit
view > page style > basic page style

In Opera hit
view > style > usermode

As a quickie in any browser, if the page has ridiculously low contrast, or a background which makes it impossible to read the letters, I try highlighting the text with the mouse. That usually gives me some reasonable color text on a blue background.

If the situation is just plain pathological, like a lengthy "user agreement" in a tiny scroll box, I copy the whole thing and paste it into a text editor. This may not work well with special characters but user agreements in English usually don't have any of those.

The worst cases arise when printing a page with ridiculous colors. Yellow text on black will cause any reasonable printer to suppress the background, so that one page doesn't exhaust all the black toner. But that leaves yellow text on white paper, which is unreadable. In cases like that, I've saved the page (IE is particularly good at saving pages), opened up the html page in a text editor, changed the coding for the colors of the text and background, opened my new version of the page in any browser, and printed from there. If the page is written in those newfangled style sheets, this probably won't work.

For Internet Exploder:

Go to Tools>Internet options>General>Accessibility

Check "Ignore colors specified on web pages". Ta Da.

Oh yeah, on the General properties sheet there is a button for "Colors". Set them to whatever you please. Double Ta Da.

Ahhhh...much better,thank you Evan!

Medium blue text on white is really easy to read and oddly enough forest green on white is even better maybe our Alistair is onto something http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif
