I have been toying with the idea of a power feed for the table on my Clausing mill (8520). The latest Enco sales flyer lists an Enco power feed rated at 135 ft/lbs torque. Having no previous experience with power feeds I would like some input from the members of this board regarding this idea. The $200.00 price tag appeals to me as I cannot justify $500.00+ for a Servo unit. The mill is used as a hobby machine with no heavy cuts involved. Thanks!

Is this mill the small vertical mill with V belt step pulley drive and a round over arm?
If so I had one, and sold it with a nice homemade table feed.
If interested, I’ll look for drawings.
135 ‘ # is a lot of torque. That is 135# on a 12” lever.

If it's not to much trouble I would like to take a look at what you have.

The Servo 140 was a pretty easy install on my 8520, in part because the PF bracket mounting holes matched up perfectly with the tapped holes for the housing on the end of the mill table.

See if you can get a manual for the PF you are considering or at least mounting dimensions.

JCD--I noticed you described a table motor drive that you had built for a small verticle mill. I have a Clausing 8520 mill which is what I think you are describing and I would be very interested in see some drawing or pictures of your installation. Can you make them available.

Hi Pat,
I have a Clausing 8520 with the Clausing power feed # 8635. I'm not sure of the max. torque output but the final drive has a slip clutch set for 3ft/lbs. That's the spec. in my manual, I haven't checked the actual torque setting on my mill. Given all that, I think #135 of torque is more than adequate.
