Although the turner I made for the boring bar worked I had to have one the was a little better(to much free time) This one replaces the conpound and I took little pieces from every one elses improvements that were posted here. Now I just have to play with the grinding of the bit. I hope you know that the first ball made replaces that weird shaped one that is on there now.

Very Nice!

One thing you might consider to aid in the setup for creating spheres is to have a something on your ball turner that is on its exact center of rotation. On mine, I drilled and reamed a 1/4" diameter hole which will hold a removal dowel pin that has the end machined to a point. That way when I setup I can match it up to the center of the lathe and set the cross slide dial to zero. It is also helpful to measure off of the dowel pin to set the cutter at the correct radius so that one can achieve a specified ball diameter.

Nice job! Will that setup go the other way? That is, will it do concave as well? I'd like to make something that will allow me to make mandrels out of 1" plate either aluminum or mild steel.

Also, I wonder if the bit holder itself could be made from a slice of super heavy duty angle iron? It would save a lot of machineing time.
