Can someone with an Atlas 10" or 12" lathe give me the distance through the spindle, or if you have a collet set up the length of the draw tube.

I picked up most of a collet set, but the draw tube is goobered up. The threads are bad and I think it has been shortened. I will have to make a new one.

Distance through spindle is 10.875" from the left edge to the right end of the threaded spindle nose.

My drawbar isn't original, so I have to use some spacers ( until I get busy and cut it down ), with the spacers I'm using, it's 9.5" from the edge of the last spacer to the end of the tube.

p.s. I also don't know if the collet holder that goes in the nose piece is original or not.

sorry this isn't more definitive

My 10" measures aprox. 11" with no chuck on. Also my homemade drawbar is 11".

J.C. I just went and removed the chuck on my atlas and measured the spindle length. Mine is I think a seventies model 12 inch unit. Spindle lenght is 10 7/8". That is from the face of the spindle at the threaded nose to the rear face where the bearing collar is. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick replies. It looks like 10-7/8" is the answer.

I appreciate the help.

the collet setup from a s-b 9"is the same you only need a spacer for the draw bar as it is longer for the s-b. but everything else works i used one for years on my craftsman 12"
