Hello Hoss. I spent many years doing pump repair work in a large pulp & paper mill. From shafts that you could hide in your pocket to ones that we needed a crane to lift and up to about 25 ft. long. In my experience, most bent shafts were not economic to straighten because the metal (all metals) always had a memory and would soon bend again in the same place. The other parts & labour that it took to rebuild a large pump just were not worth the gamble. We would sometimes weld up a fit on the very end of a shaft, and machine it back to size, and I must have built up a couple thousand bearing fits with metal spaying equipment. Our most succesfull straightening method was by shrinking with hot spots on the high side. In some instances this can lead to stress cracks so some discretion or judgement must be used. Any help? Regards John

Visit your local automotive machine shop, one that does crankshaft welding/grinding. They usually have a press apparatus for straightening bent cranks prior to grinding.
