View Full Version : Thread?
I am trying to repair an old Press. The threaded shaft for the ram is missing. I stuck plasticine up the hole to measure the pitch. It is approx6.5 threads per inch. The hole opening is 1.350 dia. I thought it was an acme thread but it is not. Can any of you tell me what thread this is. I need to make a part on my lathe for it. Is it a 29 degree thread? Thanx mesc

Sounds like 1-1/2 x 6-1/2 60* thread. Make a short (2-3 inch) test plug and try for fit.

You should be able to look in the hole and see the thread shape. Presses usually have acme which is 29*, square or buttress which is 45* on the forward side and 90* on the thrust side. If it is a v thread (60*) it should be 6 tpi, not 6.5. 1.350 is just about right for tap drill size for 1 1/2" dia.
Hope this helps.
