I just came across this board yesterday and was considering subscribing to HSM or MW. I'd like to know more about the content of each one. Just got a CNC table last week.

BAM,
Scott Logan (of the Logan Lathe fame) is oing to be hosting an informal get together at his company in Harvard, IL this weekend.
It's a bit of a hike for you but would be a great way to meet other hobbyists in the area.
Email me or reply here for place and time.

I would be very interested in "Networking". I have had a SB 9 x 48 lathe for a couple years and I am just getting started.

Dan,
I'm a little closer, over by Janesville, and always like to talk about tools and machines.

Till we lost the Duracell account, I used to hit Romeoville about once a week. When that happened, I saw the writing on the wall and took a local job. No more Chicago traffic for me.

ELB,
I think that Metal Express has a store in Addison - they sell metal by the inch and should be close enough for you to pick up the order.
They are a little expensive for all but short pieces. For longer stock, try McMaster-Carr in Elmhurst - I generally get delivery in 2 days or less from them.

ME in Addison is 543-8620 at least that was the number last year. The heat treater of choice is Metals Technology over in Carol Stream in the 15 years that I used them, they never lost a part. Can't say the same about the others.
If you have a production run check out Great Lakes Steel in Bridgeview. They always had the best price in large lots of surplus metal.
