B&S Surface Grinder

Hello, and Help! I have an old (? 30's-40's) Brown & Sharpe #5 hydraulic surface grinder. It came without manuals, and the automatic feed is not working properly. I believe the problem to be in the primary spool valve, but am hesitant to tear it open without any service/parts info. I am also unable to locate a serial number on this beast. Any poiners or help? If any printed material is available I would be happy to cover photocopy and mailing costs!
