I recently purchased a much used South Bend vertical mill. There is no model name or number on it. On the spindle speed chart MIL 4218 is metal stamped and on the back side of the knee ML 5713 is stamped. Will be willing to pay for a copy of any information on this mystery mill. Jenks
Dunno much about them; I think the South Bend milling machines take #30 tooling, if that helps any.

Thanks for the tooling information. South Bend has no data on the mill.

I don't know about their mills, but South Bend identifies their lathes with a model/serial number stamped right in the ways. A few years ago I bought a used heavy 10 inch SB and given the model/serial identifier they not only knew which machine it was but the day it was manufactured and who they sold it to. I was at the factory a few years ago but I don't know if they're still in business. You might check for a real model/serial number. The ones you quoted sound more like casting numbers?
