I have a very old drill press circa 1940. This drill press had a collet system that worked in the morse taper socket. The main body is a #3 morse which is split in two pieces and accepts a collet which is sized to take collets for drills with no tapered shank. Does this sound similar?

The spindle hole dia. is 5/16in.with a flair at the bottom. Spindle lenth is about
4in. Does that help.
