What is the deal with these poseidon lathes and milling machines, they look just like the emco machines but are made in taiwan, there adress is http://www.poseidon-usa.com they say they are "precision" tools (but every one always does) Has anyone ever seen one or used one, whats the story?

I doubt that they are anywhere near the quality of eMco. They look more to me like the typical import stuff sold by eNco.

And you do get what you pay for...even from Taiwan. A $999 (or Special Deal! $649) lathe is just that. You aren't going to get a top-quality precision lathe for that kind of money.

If you want to see Emco machines go to www.lathes.co.uk (http://www.lathes.co.uk) and check out some of the pictures.

As an Emco Maximat 7 owner I can tell you they make serious equipment. I use a 6 1/4" forged steel three jaw @ 2900 RPM to hold stuff because the smaller chucks cannot grip tight enough when the carbide insert tooling do what they do best (the lathe NEVER stalls).

Emco's smallest machine is the Unimat 4 (current production) and the reports I have read in MEW and ME are quite favourable for a minature lathe/mill.

Blue Ridge Machinery has North American rights to the 11"(don't quote me) and smaller machines.
