Can anyone tell me about this drill press? I can get it for free if I want , but would it be worth my time and effort as its definitely a monster?

yes, it is an antique monster!
if you have means to move it,time to restore it,and room for it i would jump on it. used one like it when i worked at a mach shop when i was in highschool, and no it was not new at the time![just in case you were wondering]
one can never have to much cool old stuff unless the wife is asked.

It's got dovetails for the table and the spindle. I'd go for it.

no matter what the size , grab it other wise you will spend long nights awake cussing yourself that you didnt get it .
