Can someone tell me how deep the eccentric cut (cam) is on a piston type quick change tool holder is?
I am ready to cut mine.

I have always used a wedge.
But for the sake of discussion, I think the depth is secondary to having the clamp effectively lock in position with a sizeable mechanical advantage.

i.e. the tool holder reaction face needs to be very close to top dead center of the piston assy. Then whatever you back-up-to for realease, is your convenience, as long as it clears the holder well enough to let you move it without rigamarole.

i.e., i.e., With care 15 thou total piston travel could be enough. You might need an adjustable piston nose if you dont keep the tool holders reasonably consistent.
30 thou travel would be more than enough, I think.
