OT: Recovering from a hard drive crash

The hard drive in my laptop crashed (I actually heard it!). I'm now trying to re-install my applications and utilities.

One I've yet to download is AOL Instant Messenger. I want to be able to use my old screen name and password if possible. Do I just go ahead and download the application and try to plug in my old name? Or do I have to offer the computer gods a body part(s) in exchange?

    Thanks in advance for help.

Yup. Plug in the old screen name and password and you should be good to go. Your buddy list is saved on the AOL servers and should return properly. Any personal settings (font, away messages, buddy icon, and custom sounds) will probably be lost.

Best of luck with the rest of the restoration.

You can just download aim and plug in your name and password and it will work. You could log on to your account from any computer that has aim installed also. I use trillian pro, it is one client that will access aim, yahoo, msn, and ICQ. It is pretty cool if you use multiple chat clients like I do.
