Just one note, I have thought about taking a
lathe with a good bed, mounting a verticle column on the cross feed, and mounting a grinding head to the verticle column and use it like a surface grinder, I have a lathe bed with carriage I bought at a swap meet, the bed is very old but shows no to little use. I thought about making a table to mount say a 48" lathe bed on a table positioned behind the bed, then use the verticle column and cross slide to grind the bed. It seems to
me a good dial indicator and with some patience a guy could do as good as could be done in a pinch. Let me know what you think.
thanks

Sounds like a good idea.So in a sense your using a lathe bed to grind a lathe bed.It might not be as accurate as a Boyer Shchultz surface grinder but what the heck give it a shot .Let us know how it turns out.
