Hey guys!
I'm boring a 2" hole in a large piece of plate (3/4" thick). Even with my quill drive it's very slow going. It's been awhile since I've bored a hole with this setup, a 3" (Taiwan) boring head with 3/4" dia brazed carbide boring bars on my mill/drill. I'm taking .025 doc with it and I'm wondering what doc you guys use with heavier mills(BP's etc.)?
I can probably do a bit heavier cuts with this but it makes the spindle wobble pretty bad as the clamp has to be undone to lower the boring head.
The spindle is pretty stiff when its locked down so I don't mind doing heavier cuts but I'm thinking my machine will be short lived if I do a bunch of boring with it.
How do the other middle weight mills do?
I'm sure I could snap off the boring bars with my old 50 taper Ohio but I'm thinking of a new verticle mill soon so I need more ammo to force myself into the purchase(prolly a BP clone)
Thanks for your time!
Russ
