I have an odd selection of carbide inserts. What has been your best tecnique to silver braze them to a mild steel shank? What is your favorite brazing material? What tecnique works best for you?

Evan--Those of us in the greater Seattle area thank our neighbors to the north for the ice ad snow that you sent us. You probably laugh at the 3 inches of snow and 28 degree temperature, but it surescrews this city up.

I silver solder carbide to mild steel shanks using 55% silver solder. The carbide needs to have the surfaces to connected cleaned up by a light grind with an abrasive wheel so the solder will flow. Use a good flux and careful application of the torch will give a good joint. I use a Diamond abrasive wheel to grind the surfaces.
