I have an ATLAS TH42 lathe and after much searching I now have the originals metal legs. What were the dimension for a TH42 stand? I THINK the wood thickness was 1 5/8" Oak(??) top and bottome shelf and 10" wide(??), was the length 54" ??? I just want to be somewhere in the neighborhood of the original stand. So:

Two Oak shelves 54" long x 10" wide x 1 5/8 " thick????
Ami I close????

I've got a tv48 10" in the garage, I'll grab a measurement in the morning for you. Yours sound right though.

I was under the impression that the 'boards' were something a PO had thrown in though.

shows a 10 that looks like mine, but mine has a chip tray, and that one has what looks to be 1.5 inch boards.

It is 6 Quarter laminated maple on mine, and I have no reason to believe it is not from the factory that way.

The 6/4 laminated maple matches the bench I have here also. The top for the 54" lathe is 57" long X 9-1/4" wide. The lower shelf is the same material but is 54-1/4" X 9-1/4". The stands were offered complete with the wood top and lower shelf as well as just the legs alone.

Atlas also offered a solid hardwood cabinet base that was patterned after laboratory benches. It appears quite attractive. I have never seen one of these.

My 10x24 is laminated something, could be maple.

Sounds like you've got the measurements, mine are also 1.5 thick, 10 wide. Length on mine would be meaningless to you as mine's a shorter lathe though.

I wonder why my th 42 has a metal chip pan with cast iron legs?????

The metal chip pan was an option, available in two sizes for the various length beds. It could be added to any Atlas bench lathe.

If I ever get it done I will post a photo or two......:-)
