When I drill a hole with a drill from the back row I always pilot drill using drills from the same column and rows smaller. It's a habit. Following that last row I then run a reamer through the hole to bring it to size. Today I did that - or so I thought. When I got to the last stage I chucked up the reamer and passed it through a gaping canyon. Oh damn. And this is the piece I need to slit saw with zero errors.

Seems I lost track of the rank and file and selected the wrong drill for that last pass. I can save the workpiece but not by design. Dammit. Just for sake of pride I did deburr the hole before I sawed it off. Funny thing is, I mic'd the drill before beginning the sequence to be sure of fit. Next thing I'll find out is I have Asperger's syndrome or something.

Something must be wrong with your technique, I have never drilled a hole with the wrong bit.

Well, you could sleeve it if there is room to do so and weld it in on one end.
