Hi which way do you turn right or left to remove a d1-4 chuck as there are no marks to tell me which way lets it come off the head stock hope this makes sense.
On my South Bend DI 4 I turn the key to the left to loosen, Not all the way just until the wrench is parallel with the chuck in other words 90 deg.

Checked mine and with the wrench at top
dead center, a CCW rotation 90deg will get
you to a detent/click site. This is the
release point. Don't rotate beyond this. When all three are released
you may need to tap the chuck with a 1-2lb
soft face hammer. Have a board on the ways to prevent damage. It will come loose suddenly, may not fall but take care. Steve
