I'm attempting to start a forum dedicated to the bar stock model engine builders. If there's no interest I'll kill it.
If anyone IS interested please join me.
The link is Home Model Engine Machinist (http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/)
I'm not trying to take anything away for this forum, just trying to
concentrate an interest!!!

Two comments, Rick.

I see that, under the "Plans" heading, you've posted a url to a pdf copy of Verburg's mine engine plans that looks like it was scanned directly from his book, "Elmer's Engines". (There's also a website somewhere where pdfs of other plans from this book are available.)

I checked my copy of "Elmer's Engines" and the copyright date is 1988. I'm not closely familiar with the copyright laws but I'm guessing that the book is still protected, even if it is now out of print.

You may want to research that a bit farther. Similar comment for the "Poppin" plans copied directly from "Live Steam".

Second, I'm sorry to see that you feel it's necessary to create a special venue for bar stock engines. It's a rather narrow field and I question how much traffic your new site will see. But, more important than that consideration, I think that the subject belongs here on this forum where the exposure is greater and the chance for synergistic exchange is greater.

Regardless, good luck with your endeavor.

Thanks for all your comments!
Copyright is a tough subject. All of the plans I personally have were
downloaded from other sites. None of them are scans that I've done.
I've taken a different approch to the plans issue to cover MY butt!
In less than 24 hours we have 23 registered users.
I'm SHOCKED, but pleased. There does seem to be some interest in the
narrow scope of my personal passion.

Congratulations and good luck on the new forum. I guess I have feelings. Part of me wishes I had thought of it first but I am not sure of the need. I too love the little engines as a hobby as does Marv. I also know there are forums with similar interest that are pretty stagnant. For instance the collateral Steam section of http://bbs.livesteam.net/ shows two active threads.
A very good model engine site that is somewhat active is http://www.floridaame.org
the site has a fantastic gallery.
The new board appears to be set up well And I will join soon.

I`m going to look at it . I like bar stock Hit Miss engines and have built a few would like to build more . But my design time gets in the way. So If their are some plans I will be interested.

There's also multiple Yahoo groups dedicated to model engines from castings/bar stock engines :

and a few others.

Yeah, it's a pretty narrow target audience. I hope your new site does well !!

I just signed up. Cool engines, I'll certainly build one. However, don't expect major contributions from me yet, I'm still learning machining and collecting all the information I can get.
