    Fairbanks lathe???

    Hey,
    Locally someone has a 10X20 Fairbanks lathe for sale. I did the UK lathe search and nothing comes up. Anyone know anything about the lathe???? Looks like it comes with change gears, steady rest and compound. Thanks Fred

    Fairbanks lathe...

    Laddy;
    I don't know where you're writing from, but I guess you mean a "Fairbanks-Morse" lathe....I recall seeing some machines labled as such. These were all smaller bench lathes at college, in a testing lab I worked at and in the electrical shop in a large shipyard I worked at.

    I don't think Fairbanks-Morse actually built small lathes, but I couldn't tell you who's they really were, either. Could have been Standard-Modern, S-B, one of many....Fairbanks-Morse was a name on many products ranging from large diesel engines on down. Llike many manufactures, some things were probably outsourced. F-M was probably concentrating it's engineering efforts on the engines for ships, subs, locomotives etc....
