View Full Version : fluxcore wire alloy

Hello all,

I was wondering if most fluxcore wire is similar in it's alloy.

Most things that I weld with the new (to me) welder get oil blackened after all the finish is done, and while the weld metal looks indistinguishable when I'm grinding and filing, I find that when I oil dip the finished product I get a lighter color at the weld......sometimes it looks like a silver soldered joint.

I was looking forward to the uniform coloration that I thought I would achieve with welding as opposed to the different color that I'm used to with hard solder.

So my question is: does fluxcore wire come in various alloys, the spool that's on there now doesn't have a label but if I can change it out for something that will blend better (oil blackening-wise) with 1018 or "mild steel" in general, that would be great.

Thanks for your time, sorry to ramble.

John
