I have just recently bought a digital micrometer during daytime it will hold its zero perfectly, I have noticed that in the evenings it is very erratic and will move up to 30 + thou off zero. Could it be interferance from fluorescent lighting ? I live in the UK and we are on 240 volts ac. It's baffling me been using normal micrometers for over 50 years no problems, try to bring myself into the 21 st century and don't think much of it !!!!! David

Try turning the problem off and on.
See if the problem goes away in the evening by turning the flourescent lights off. Use an incandescent reading lamp or flashlight (torch?) to read the micrometer. Try again with the flourescent lights on.
