I have acquired a Jacobs chuck that I can't easily measure the taper
but have tried a #3 and #33 and both are too large. Don't have any
adaptors smaller. The info on the chuch is as follows:
375 PORTOMATIC chuck 0 - 3/8"
The Jacobs Mfg. Co.
Hartford Conn USA

Pat applied for.

I checked the Jacobs web page and ther is no such model number
listed. ( probably too old a model)
Does anyone know if it is a #2 or short#2 or is it from before tapers
were standardized? :-)
Thanks

Lew,

Machinery's Handbook lists, Usual capacities for each taper. #2 is for 0-1/2". #2a (short), 0-5/16". So, probably a # 2.

.5590" Large end of plug, .8750" long, .48764" small end of plug.

Lane, #33 is smaller than a # 6, and that did not fit.

Cheers, :)

Try a 2J Jacobs.

.5590 (large end) is #2 Jacobs. Jacobs also made a .625 straight mount. Make sure it is indeed tapered.
