ok so use o'rings price on o rings dont know , price for belt set seems to be around 7-8 bucks for two sets of the three belts plus maybe 1-2 for shipping,so if i go with o rings do i try my local ace hardware or another 5 minutes to grainger.?THE KEY TO QUALITY IS THE REDUCTION OF VARIABILITY!

The original belts that came with the Unimat 3 were just plain ole' "O" rings, if you really want to spend extra dollars on the polyurathane belting, then go for it.
If you just want another belt to get it to work, then go for the original "O" rings, only cost a few cents compared to dollars for the other stuff.
Just take the busted one along with you and get another "O" ring of that same size, pretty simple when you think about it, it aint rocket science.

You could get a little industrious as I once did and turn an o-ring into a v belt to suit the pulleys. (are those v pulleys? - mine are for the old Unimat).
One quick and dirty (literally) way to do it is to buy an o-ring that's a bit tight, then put it on and run at some fairly slow speed. Use an angle grinder to dress the side of the o-ring that you can reach, then put the ring on the other way and dress the other side. Presto- a vee belt.
It is messy, but it does work. I think that belt I made is still on the lathe.I seldom do anything within the scope of logical reason and calculated cost/benefit, etc- I'm following my passion-

Have a good look at these so called Unimat belts on Fleabay, if they are BLACK, then they are genuine "O" rings. These have been bought for peanuts by the seller and then being re-sold for dollars, this is just plain ole' GREED.
Go buy your own "O" rings, short circuit this lot, it's cheaper.
The coloured belts could be polyurethane or kiddies bangles, yep, cheap little girls bangles, remember the word cheap. Polyurethane should be advertised as such.
Choice is yours to make.
