For some reason I get a 403 forbidden message when I try to reach the board, yet have no trouble getting to it through search or links

link I have, and been using forever is http://www.homeshopmachinist.net/bbs/

Which always brought me to the 'main' window (general/networking/third hand forums)

current link I need to use to the same place is:

http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/

peeling off the end slashes and 'bbs' gets me to the magazine home page.

Did they change something without telling us or did I just miss it?

Ken.

The link on the home page was broken for a long time. It may have been accurate at some point in time but for what ever reason the URL of the BBS changed, or the link got fat-fingered, or both. If you had bookmarked it before the supposed change then that would explain why your bookmark fails now. The correct address of the BBS (as of today, at least) is http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/.

This just started within the last hour.
The hsm.net/bbs address gives me "this website declined to show this webpage".

I am guessing the former is the case. I too used to use that URL, but I note that this thread's URL is in this form:

http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/showthread.php?t=27840

Make a new bookmark. This is the trouble with setting direct links to pages inside a company's web site. They may make changes and then the old links don't work. We have to do this sort of thing from time to time where I work. Its reasonable to expect consistency at the web front end, but not that every URL will always remain the same.

Folders were being moved around, and the link was severed temporarily.

The link has been restored, but is (and has been for some time now) depreciated. Please update your bookmarks to http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/

Thanks,

Management

Thanks for the info, I'll update the bookmark folder.

I had just been on maybe 10 minutes earlier, chased a link then went to go straight back and it didn't work

An admin could do this while they are screwing around.. :p

You can use the embed code on YouTube's site to make a BB code:

Admin CP -> Custom BB Codes -> Add New BB Code

Title - YouTube
Tag - youtube
Replacement:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Example - JFwCCL0Vh6U

Description - Use the movie code from the YouTube URL in your browser. For example, http://youtube.com/watch?v=JFwCCL0Vh6U

Its too bad we dont have a tech admin at this site to make all the cool stuff work, I would be willing to do that.

I tech admin a few sites like http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php and we have all the goodies. Uploads/downloads of plans. Attachments to a post so you can share plans, and video embeding...

I like this site but see it is not run by technically competent people, I will be more than willing to fix all that.
