Any one sharpening their own single flute c'sinks?

Is any one using the single flute sharpening fixtures sold by MSC, etc?

Thanks in advance,

bgmnn

Hi bgmnn.

First of all, I think I'd rather not comment on that previous thread.

But having said that, can you provide pics or links for your particular single flute counter-sink cutter and the sharpening equipment at MCS etc. that you refer to?

That will focus the responses to your specific counter-sink and tools etc.

Anything else or less may well result in "hit and miss" response/s.

Well It is kind of trial and error, IIRC Mine is offset by .030 and a 1/2" hole drilled and reamed in it, then it is finding the good High spot to align the cutting edge up to , then it is just a matter of spinning it up against a grinder.

They do cut well when you get the geometry correct.

Basically, they are just an offset sleeve as Jay describes that backs the cutter off as it is turned. You can probably measure the offset directly from the cutter by indicating it in the lathe.

The MA Ford cam is oversized and is furnished with sleeves for the various shank sizes. It grinds the OD, but not the cutting edge as I recall.
