Welcome aboard! Please ignore the little Wolf behind the curtain, he's the exception not the rule. :)
I believe this must be some sort of initiation ceremony.
So, Gurl, what prompted you to sign on? I for one have enjoyed seeing your progress in learning "the art".

Wish I'd never started the gurlie, in some ways :(
She wants to paint her welding helmet pink and stick sequins on it.
I barred lace on the gloves as a fire hazard.
She's developing a tidy hand with the TIG tho :D

GURLS are welcome here, they smell purty.

If I can keep my manhood and ride a BURPLE COLORED motorsprinkler, she can sequin her welding helmet.
I noticed a nice fat recluse spider crawling around inside mine right in front of my face while I was tigging something yesterday..
Swarf&Sparks

Kinda difficult David, she'll happily stand by with a TIG, but she's allergic to camera flash.
And I kid you not about sequins, she's working on it now.
Just as well I got the auto helmet. Sequins flash more than the TIG!

Ok.. Scary? I just got back from Ace hardware on the bike.
I was inside paying for my *two setscrews when I noticed a kid go running past my bike..
When I cranked it in gear it laid about two feet of black stripe before I calmed it down. I guess the lil kid must've stepped on the gear lever for me? THE Ace girl standing outside with the mowers, I thought she was going to pee laughing so hard..
Who's scary? I'm a freaking comedian..

Wow Lin.
A pic of "Lochinvar" no less (with apologies to Sir Walter Scott: "Marmion")
http://homepages.wmich.edu/~cooneys/poems/Scott.Lochinvar.html
(I can just about hear Alistair Hosie and Norm (Aviemoron) coming from here!!).
Given where you live, (the Wild West of OZ) your Scottish heritage and the OP topic, I thought it was a "good fit".
Yep, I had to memorise it in Primary School as well - 65 years ago!!
I do hope that the colorful bird does not have a colorful vocabulary - though I could understand why if it did!!! - both the one on your shoulder and the one in your shop!!
Given your association with the "Grey Funnel Line" (OZ Navy) and things maritime, the beard and parrot on shoulder, "wild-eyed/arsed" look etc., I did have the "Pirates of Penzance" come to mind.
What with dealing with ex-"Grunter" types in "private pinnaces" et. al. I did think of "HMS Pinafore"!!! (with apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan).
I must say that it is about time we had a girl on the forum who is not only competent in HSM-matters but could give lessons to some here!!!!
At least I will have company in bringing some much-needed couth and decorum to the board as I was struggling to do it all on my own - as many will have not only noticed but have been truly thankful for!!!
http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=%22couth+and+decorum%22&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
Welcome to the forum, the "Zoo" and the "bear-pit" Gurl - sincerely!!

Lin,
that "rainbow" Lorikeet, it does look like the rainbow at end of which is - in Irish folk-lore - is a Leprechaun with a pot of gold!!!
We've got those Lorikeets here too - plenty of the noisy buggers - all over the flowering gums (trees).
And Galahs - lots - digging up the place for onion-grass roots -and the white Cockatoo's (yellow crests) as digging it up as well, its a full-time job just getting rid of 'em.

A bunch of us rode down to Taranaki for the Jethro tull concert at the TSB Stadium; as I recall the Magogs were the promoters of the event.
Anyway, we were staying at a motel out of town. A permanent resident there got about with a Lorikeet perched on his shoulder. An interesting bloke to talk with but a bit disconcerting though as you arent sure who to look at:) ; like talking to a joker with a glass eye .
Oh yeah, Welcome to the girl (gurl)

same prob here Mick, thousands of the screeching bast@rds!

Yup..that's my lil' right hand! I guess this is testing the waters.. we'll maybe see why very few women ever post here. I see a couple of you can't help acting like asshats.... good going.
#1 rule in my shop... "The Gurl" gets treated with respect or I kick your butt out. I don't care who you are.. yer gone.
I'm uhhh... sorta saving you from yourself. A couple of "Ladies Men"... who are Gods gift to women... I let them beak off to her cuz they really pissed me off. They paid... I am far nicer to deal with than her.
I told you she had fangs and I meant it. She's a sweet lookin gurl but she can cuss better than any of you.. guaranteed.
I hope you guys afford her the same repect she gets here at our shop.
So... macona.. a "Gurl" is someone who can tig weld aluminum or carbon or SS better than most I've seen here and she is just learning. Be careful or I'll post some of her alu welds.
She's posting here because she wants to... I never prompted it.
I'd love it if pics of her work were posted and appreciated. As for a bunch of pics of her.. forget it.. that's not what this is all about. She's doing the same stuff you guys are doing and she should be damm proud of it... in this 95% male occupation.
BTW.. today she welded up an 8" wide flange beam, welded for hours on our folding trailer ramps.. (cool pics to follow), made an ignition cover for a Harley so some guy could ride on the weekend...then used her great tig hand to weld studs to a CR250 E-pipe so we could pull a huge dent out of it.. so that guy could ride this weekend.
So here she is.. behave yourselves dammit...
And one more thing.. if any of you send her any nasty (or otherwise) PM's.. I'll make damm sure they get posted here for God and everyone else to see. Ya.. I'm lookin out for her.. she looks out for me businesswise so I owe her.

Well heck yeah!!!!! Glad to see you here finally.. I have heard nuthin but the best about you from Russ here. Yer heads and shoulders above what I consider myself a welder!!!
And if yer smart which is a givin at this point drain that boss for every welding tip he has to show you. There are a lot of great welders out there but its pretty hard to get them to show you the certain tips they have learned over the years. You have him by the coat tails and he is a good teacher so force him to get back to the tourch. Hes got some tricks under the TIG sleeve, take them!!!
Oh, and the asshats that can be more than willing (myself included) to show off their hat, well, you already know how to deal with them....
So, the idea here is we wanna see or hear about the projects. Dont matter how small cause this is a home shop environment. But anything new gets our old blood motivated to do something in our own shop. So if you have something you think is exciting share!!!
The place is about sharing.... And I say that for everyone. Share yer projects with US.. Thats why I come here, to see what YOU are working on.
And it doesnt matter if its a way to sharpen drill bits or a full blown CNC machine..
Welcome, glad to see you around... JR

I couldn't say it better myself! Welcome aboard - don't let any jerks get under your skin!
For me, the forum is about metal working and learning the craft. Thats all I care about - girl, guy, transgender, chimp, it doesn't matter! If they talk the talk and walk the walk, its good enough for me.

Welcome to the learning zone.
Its heart warming to hear of someone who reckons they havent earnt a raise because they havent learnt enough to deserve it, Good on you.
I like this forum for the little bits of advice I can not find in books or on the web - so any tips you have to offer us learners is most welcome.
I hope you stick with the forum and the learning, as life is mostly about learning (what to remember and what to ignor)
So ignor the rubbish commenst and join in the fun.

Welcome to the crazy house! I wish one of my grandsons would take an interest in the shop. I have no one to pass on the stuff I learned over the last 60 some years. Son is a doc so he's ok and one grandson is working on his Phd in math so he's ok but the others don't have any interest and I need to teach someone what I know. I am still learning and we should consider the day lost if something new isn't learned. Take pride in your work and have fun. Peter
