Electric resistive logging of water wells was adopted from the oilpatch. (Schlumberger-Houston) Original measurements required four conductor wireline, or multiple trips with two conductor. Modern water logging is done via shielded coax, with a downhole PCB encased in a pressure proof tube container, 2 X 30 inches. Information provides thickness of water bearing strata and water quality.

Pics are of bar of 303 SS being whittled for end caps, O-ring seals, electric conductor bulkhead/seals and mechanicals. Female threads on long tube were machined by real shop with nice size lathe. Threads are 1 and 2 inch Acme, 8 and 10 TPI, single pointed manually on 9 X 20 lathe.

Would be a hard way to make a decent living.

Take this back to the PM site before it gets out of hand. :)

Guido... please, please take this over to PM. DT wants this thread there :D
Would be best if you mention they are made in china though.
Do they work? Ooops.. do I really want to ask that?

I have wanted for a long time to do some experiments with using a seismic thumper and some geophones to see if it is possible to map out shallow strata to find water. I can't think of any reason why not but the main catch is the software which I would have to write myself.
