Here are a couple of pics of my Helve Hammer. I believe this is what Coppretta, Barb is talking about. Mine is large but they can be made in any size. I have heard Helve Hammers like to walk around the shop. This one does not walk. It is made from a chunk of 5" X 12" I beam, it has a 1750rpm motor, belted to a Dodge Brothers gear reduction box at 19 to 1 ratio, and then belted again to the excentric that is attached to a Toyota Leaf spring. It beats 90 times a minute at full speed but I made a brake and slip clutch on the belt system. Yes an industrial sewing machine motor works best. I have one but have not installed it.
