Hi Guys!

We're headed to Ohio and I've convinced the family that they really want to go to Cincinnati. I thought it would be neat to see the former machine tool capital and I was wondering what you guys had to reccomend?

Isn't there a museum there with a bunch of old machine tools in it? Is that just the city museum or is there a special name for it?

How about other neat places to visit?

Thanks!

I'm on the left coast, so not much help.
unless You are realy into pain I wwwwwouldn't suggest draging the whole family to an antique machine collection. My wife wont stay in the same room if I'm watching Modern Marvels or Big Machines etc.

Fasttrack,
while not machine related, a wonderfully interesting place is the Dayton Air Force Museum, not all that far from Cinci.

Go to the old "Union Train Station". There are several different elements to it. One is an Imax theatre, another is just the "coolness" of trains and how things used to be. Yet another is a scale diarama of old Cincinnati that you can walk all around. It is quite large (maybe 30' square) and you see models of how their used to be passenger "lift cars" to take pedestrians from one hill top to the lower level. As you are watching and looking, the lighting continuously changes as the sun rises, travels across the sky, and sets. Finally, as you go down thru several different levels you experience the history of Cincinnati. I think on the lower level is a small section on Cincinnati machines. There are also interesting video's with some neat footage.

I live less than 5 miles from the Air Force Museum. It is a great adventure if you're into aviation. Dayton also has Carrilon park which has some rather unique exhibits involving machinery and industry.
