I was scounging around here at work and found a nice .0001 dial gage made by Mercer, St. Albans. It looked to be a very high quality item, and probably rare here in the US. In the back of my memory, I thought that they kinda had a legendary status, if a a dial gage could have such a thing.:) I would hope that some of our British friends might have some background or stories about them.

Obviously not that rare over here. As well as dial gauges they were well known for their bore gauges. The 2" to 6" seems to be the one you come across the most.
They also did finger gauges like a pair of scissors with the dial on one leg, usually restricted to about 0.4" of movement and popular in inspection routines where they had to check the same measurement all the time.

Nine on ebay.co.uk at the moment, 6 on completed but only two sold for 2.00 and 4.49 respectively, as I say not rare here.
